McKinley Getting Comfortable

Few players around the Lone Star State have been more well known from an early date than Plano (Texas) Prestonwood cornerback Verone McKinley. Thanks to talent of his own, as well as a father who played at Texas Tech, much has been expected of the 5-foot-10, 160-pound class of 2018 defender since he was just working toward his first varsity letter.

The talented cornerback took his second trip to Norman in the last month's time and came away feeling good, again, about the Sooners.

McKinley's Take

"It was a good visit, got to spend a lot of time talking with coach (Kerry) Cooks, coach (Chip) Viney and it was good being around the whole staff," McKinley said of his weekend visit.

"I thought (Dakota Austin and Jordan Thomas) both really knew what they were doing. They were reading splits and their technique was just really good," he said of the Sooners Red-White starters at cornerback.

"I feel comfortable in Norman," he admitted.

"I might come back, it's close enough that I will if I can," he said.

Next on the Schedule

McKinley mentioned he'd like to take visits to LSU, USC, UCLA, and Florida among a few others in the coming months to try and continue to accumulate more information for his decision.

Getting a Look at McKinley:

Scoop Staff's Take

McKinley has a big offer list and it only figures to grow over time but the Sooners have an advantage in his relationship with several of Oklahoma's class of 2017 members. There is work to do but it's hard to bet against Cooks and Viney working on a Dallas area defensive back.
