No Luck Needed for Richardson

It’s going to be incredibly difficult for Oklahoma to take a serious run at another running back for the 2020 class.

It’s going to take somebody really special since the Sooners already have the commitment of Aledo (Texas) High star Jase McClellan.

But Dominic Richardson could be that guy. Coming off his sensational sophomore season at Oklahoma City Bishop McGuinness, Richardson is a name a lot of people are going to know moving forward.

The Sooners know it, too. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Richardson was one of the few 2020 prospects to be on campus for OU’s junior day Sunday afternoon.

“I loved it,” Richardson said. “The program is outstanding and loved the facilities. The coaching staff is amazing as well.”

Not too many people knew who Richardson was entering his sophomore year, but he became a name to know with every single week.

Richardson finished with 2,135 yards on 189 carries and 26 touchdowns, averaging more than 11 yards per carry. As good as those numbers are, Irish fans were left wondering what might have been as Richardson suffered a season-ending leg injury in the final game of the regular season and missed the playoff run.

He’s not back to 100 percent just yet, but Richardson is excited to show people what he can do once again.

“It’s going great,” said Richardson about his recovery. “The doctors have really given me a date (to be cleared), but I’m it’s no longer than 7-8 weeks until I fully recover.”

Richardson became somebody for the OU staff to take notice about, and Richardson got a taste of what the competition is like since McClellan also returned to Norman on Sunday.

Although it was clear Richardson enjoyed just about everything during his OU visit, he did mention one thing that really stood out.

“If I had to choose one thing, I would have to say the weight room,” Richardson said. “I experienced a lot in there that I didn’t know existed.”

Richardson has an early offer from Memphis.
