OKPreps: Shettron, Mukes still standing

Now we’re getting to the real fun of the Oklahoma high school playoff picture. And as we hit the semifinal round for the bigger schools, there are a couple of Oklahoma commits still alive in Choctaw defensive back Jordan Mukes and Edmond Santa Fe wide receiver Talyn Shettron.

Weatherford defensive prospect Ethan Downs saw his season coming to an end, after suffering an ankle injury in the first half of what turned out to be a 34-30 defeat.

Choctaw vs. Stillwater, 1 p.m. Saturday (Owasso)

Almost everybody is dreaming of a championship rematch between Stillwater and Bixby as the two squads played a memorable title battle last year. Well, Choctaw is hoping it can disrupt that with an upset of the Pioneers.

Mukes was sensational in being a lockdown cornerback in last week’s 20-7 victory against Oklahoma City Putnam North, and the Yellowjackets were stingy on defense all night.

Stillwater boasts one of the state’s best 2021 prospects in running back Qwontrel Walker. The senior has had a legendary four-year career at Stillwater and would love to cap it off with a state championship.

Edmond Santa Fe vs. Tulsa Union, 7 p.m. Saturday (Owasso)

It was another banner outing for Santa Fe receiver Talyn Shettron in the playoff win vs. Westmoore. As long as SoonerScoop.com is not in attendance, he has been sensational (half joking).

For the season, Shettron now has 55 catches for 996 yards and 14 touchdowns, needing just four yards vs. Union to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark.

After an 0-4 start, Union is starting to play like Union that everybody knows. Now 6-4, it exacted a little bit of revenge vs. Broken Arrow last week, after losing to the Tigers during the regular season.

Union running back A.J. Green, committed to Arkansas, has been living up to his billing as one of the best players in the state.
