Redemption: Sooners are kings of Big 12

KANSAS CITY – Quarterback Jason White made sure history did not repeat itself for No. 2 Oklahoma and in the process may have set himself up for a personal repeat.

White threw three first-half touchdown passes and the Oklahoma defense allowed just 46 total yards as the Sooners rolled to a 42-3 victory over Colorado in the Big 12 Conference Championship game.

Last season, Oklahoma also entered the game 11-0 but was drubbed 35-7 by Kansas State. This time around the Sooners scored on their first three drives and four of their first five to open up a 28-0 lead at the half.

White, the defending Heisman Trophy winner, threw a touchdown pass to Will Peoples on the game's opening drive and hit Mark Clayton for a pair of 22-yard scores. White connected with Clayton eight times for 106 yards and was 22-for-29 for 254 yards for the game.

Oklahoma (12-0) won the title game for the third time in the last five years thanks to White, freshman running back Adrian Peterson and a stingy defense. Peterson rushed for 171 yards and three scores on 28 carries. He closed out the first-half scoring with a one-yard TD run, added a three-yard score in the third and capped the scoring with a 32-yard jaunt in the fourth.

Colorado was unable to generate any offense against the Sooners, who entered the game having given up three points in their last two games. Joel Klatt completed just eight-of-27 passes for 52 yards and Bobby Purify picked up three yards on 12 carries.

White left the game with just under 11 minutes to play but the Sooners still outgained the Buffaloes (7-5), 498-46. Oklahoma will find out Sunday where its bowl destiny lies and it is likely to be against No. 1 Southern California in the Orange Bowl for the BCS Championship.
