Richardson Seeing 2020

Coming into the 2017 season Dominic Richardson was not a name that many were expecting. But following a 2000 yard sophomore season for Oklahoma City Bishop McGuinness there was no other player we could have chosen as SoonerScoop.com's Sophomore of the Year for the 2017 season.

During his sophomore year Richardson put up a staggering 11.3-yards per carry in the midst of a 2,135-yard and 26 touchdown season. That performance has seen him already pick up an offer from near-constant Oklahoma presence, Memphis.

For Richardson his success during his sophomore year started long before the season-opener against Del City on Sept. 1.

"My sophomore year I came out strong and I felt confident about it. I studied the game a lot more than I did my freshman year, and it helped mentally and physically which led me to become noticed," Richardson said.

"Since my younger days I’ve always wanted to be the best and I always have been a workaholic and that is what motivated me and I became more hungry every game."

With the work already put in to his burgeoning football career the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Richardson says he knows there is plenty more to work for ahead of him.

"This year was a success but I have a lot to learn mentally to be great. My main focus is to remain humbled and strive for what I want, and I want that gold ball bad this year," he said of bringing a state title to Bishop McGuinness.

"I’m honored to be apart of a program like BMCHS and being coached by outstanding coaches. I’m just waiting on my minor set back and I will be back with the full summary."

That 'minor setback' was a scary injury suffered in the Irish's regular season finale against Piedmont. However, Richardson is already working hard to prove that 2017 was no fluke and thinks he knows just how to do so.

"I just need to work harder than I ever have especially coming off an injury," he said.

And for the young player who is just beginning to get his feel for recruiting he says there is no play on just how he'll handle the process.

"I don’t necessarily have a plan, but I’m just hoping that the schools that I have really been looking into show some interest."
