Riley Sees This Week's MVP

Oklahoma's coaching staff hit the road hard this weekend and saw a number of big performances but head man Lincoln Riley had a chance to watch this week's MVP in person when he saw 2019 quarterback commitment Spencer Rattler dominate. There was plenty of competition for this week's No. 1 spot in Future Sooners including a massive effort from one of two receivers coming off serious injuries.

The Skinny: DeSales got back on the winning track with a 31-0 trouncing of St. Charles. Offensively Asamoah had a pair of touchdown runs (25, 50) while leading DeSales to it's No. 18 shutout of St. Charles in 46 meetings.

Next Week: DeSales (4-2) is traveling to Trenton Edgewood.

The Skinny: Austin and Lancaster fell to Dallas area standouts Mansfield Legacy 49-28. Austin's pass defense for the Tigers was a bit lackluster allowing 2019 offer Jalen Catalon to go 6-for-7 for 133-yards.

Next Week: Lancaster (2-3) has the week off.

The Skinny: Baldwin had his season ended in the season opener with a knee injury but in spite of his absence Falls pulled off a 40-26 win over Cy-Lakes.

Next Week: Cy-Falls (1-2) is traveling to Cypress Springs.

The Skinny: Bridges wasn't just catching touchdown patches though two of his three receptions went for scores (50, 10) he also managed a 37-yard touchdown pass of his own as Hebron downed Bryon Nelson 52-31.

Next Week: Hebron (3-1) is hosting L.D. Bell.

The Skinny: Aledo is rarely challenged in district play and this week was no different as the Bearcats opened the district portion of their season with a 56-7 win over Ft. Worth Chisholm Trail. Carter, known as 'Scooby' logged a 19-yard catch in abbreviated duty.

Next Week: Aledo (4-0) is traveling to Saginaw.

The Skinny: Crawford, making his return to action this season, showed a bit of rust by dropping a few passes, including a would-be touchdown but managed five catches for 37-yards as Rockdale downed Rogers 34-6.

Next Week: Rockdale (2-2) is traveling to Little River Academy.

The Skinny: Edwards and Deerfield Beach's defense just kept dominating as they downed Taravella 50-6 on Thursday night.

Next Week: Deerfield Beach (3-1) is traveling to St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Skinny: In an in-state Oklahoma high school classic No. 1 Union downed No. 2 Owasso, 44-41 in double overtime. Fields had a solid game, nearly coming up with a second quarter interception and in on numerous tackles.

Next Week: Union (5-0) is travelling to Moore on Thu., Oct. 5.

The Skinny: For the first time this year Brenham and Johnson fell, 44-21 to Magnolia West. Johnson only had two catches for 15-yards for the Cubs run-dominant offense but he did manage a fourth quarter 44-yard touchdown run.

Next Week: Brenham (2-1) is traveling to Magnolia West.

The Skinny: Kelley was part of a run defense that largely stifled Owasso on the ground on the night and kept the Rams under pressure. But undoubtedly what will be remembered is his two-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter in Union's 44-41 double-overtime win over Owasso.

Next Week: Union (5-0) is traveling to Moore on Thu., Oct. 5.

The Skinny: Aledo got district play started with a 56-7 win over Ft. Worth Chisholm Trail but McLellan is still out with an injury.

Next Week: Aledo (4-0) is traveling to Saginaw.

The Skinny: Moore, who is out due to injury, watched as his team came up with a 32-28 win over Dodge City.

Next Week: Independence C.C. (4-1) is hosting Ellsworth C.C. on Sat., Oct. 7.

The Skinny: Mordecai seems to be hitting his stride, rushing for 127-yards including three touchdowns (21, 7, 2) and throwing for another 420 along with two touchdowns (54, 11). All this while helping his team down Copperas Cove, 49-45. In just the first half Mordecai was 18-28 passing in spite of several drops.

Next Week: Midway (5-0) is hosting Harker Heights.

The Skinny: Pledger played a key role in IMG's 21-0 win over Florida powerhouse Miami Northwestern.

Next Week: IMG (4-0) is traveling to Ocala Trinity Catholic.

The Skinny: Rattler went off against Desert Mountain, the former home of Sooners tight end Mark Andrews. On his birthday Rattler was 16-25 for for 395-yards and five touchdowns over a team that came in ranked No. 8 in the state.

WEEK 5 MVP

Next Week: Pinnacle (4-3) is traveling to Anthem Boulder Creek.

The Skinny: Redmond helped the Bombers defense crush Deer Creek, 63-14. Facing constant double teams with a running back ready to chip him, Redmond had his slowest night of the year but had a tackle for loss and a blocked field goal in just three quarters of play.

Next Week: Midwest City (4-1) is traveling to Choctaw.

The Skinny: Robinson and All Saints had the week off.

Next Week: All Saints (4-0) is traveling to Dallas Christian.

The Skinny: Northwest and Simpson never got themselves going with any real rhythm on Friday night and fell to rival Northwest Eaton 58-44. That said, in spite of being a bit inconsistent offensively, particularly in the first half, the Texans put up over 500-yards of total offense.

Next Week: Northwest (3-1) is hosting Ft. Worth Brewer.

The Skinny: Prestonwood and Stogner got a big win against rival Argyle Liberty Christian 14-0 and the Sooners prize tight end commitment had three receptions for 27-yards.

Next Week: Prestonwood (3-1) is hosting Parish Episcopal.

The Skinny: Tatum and the Pirates suffered their first loss of the season, falling to fellow top 10 ranked Lawton, 27-21.

Next Week: Putnam City (4-1) is traveling to face Putnam City West.

The Skinny: After missing most of the season, prior to last week, with a hamstring injury Taylor got started in earnest this weekend with not one but two kickoff returns for touchdown (75, 85), and a pair of touchdown catches (10, 24) as Ridgeway crushed Overton 58-22.

Next Week: Ridgeway (3-4) is traveling to Brighton.

The Skinny: Dunbar traveled out of state and fell 56-32 to Detroit Catholic Central. Thomas had a one-yard touchdown run in what was a game that Dunbar trailed throughout.

Next Week: Dunbar (4-2) is hosting Dayton Meadowdale.

The Skinny: Turner-Yell and Hempstead got back on the right track downing Luling 26-7. He had four tackles and a 10-yard touchdown run along with an impressive leaping 18-yard catch.

Next Week: Hempstead (2-2) has the week off.

The Skinny: Westmoore's offense continues to look like one of the most dominant in the state after putting up almost 600-yards on the day, including 322-yards rushing in a 55-28 win over Edmond Memorial.

Next Week: Westmoore (5-0) is hosting Broken Arrow.
