Just four-and-a-half months removed from season ending knee surgery, Ryan Broyles was back on a football field Thursday morning, working out for NFL scouts during a 45-minute individual workout inside Oklahoma's Everest Indoor Center.
"I just wanted to come out and show that I'm competing, that I've been working and not slacking," said Broyles who tore his anterior cruciate ligament vs. Texas A&M.
"Just showing teams that I'm going to be ready for camp when the the time comes. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I'm working for it."
It's no secret to those who have followed the career of the NCAA's all-time receptions leader Ryan Broyles is different.
Though not 100 percent Broyles completed the vertical jump, 40-yard dash and ran routes as representatives from nearly 12 teams gathered inside the Sooner indoor practice facility.
"I have been in the 4.4 range before. My left leg is not where I want it to be but that is not expected right now. I still have got to get into the weight room a little bit more. I feel like today I showed up and showed I've been working hard," said Broyles after posting times of 4.59 and 4.57.
"I have definitely been timing well. The scouts said the same thing. They don't expect me to be full speed. I don't expect the same. Me being competitive, I wish it was in the 4.3 range. That's not the scenario. It just shows that I am working hard. I am getting my lateral movement back as well."
Since participating in the NFL Combine last month Broyles has prepared for his Pro Day performance while working out in Southern California.
"I was out in Southern California for two months leading up to the combine. Ever since then I've been bouncing back. I am striving to be a better person and a better player. I am going to do that everyday. They don't expect me to be full speed like I said but I went out there and I got to do the bench (22 reps) and I did the wonderlic, and I showed up well at those events."
"I think I did well in the interviews so they know that I am a character guy. I won't be brining any baggage along. I am just looking forward to the future.
A future that should be bright for Broyles who will now take time off to 'rest' before the NFL draft (April 26-28) in New York City
"I probably started running three weeks early that's why I am looking so well right now. I pushed through the pain. Now the pain is going away which is a blessing. I am a fast healer that's why I was able to do what I could today. It's an emotional time for me. I am glad that I could come out and show a little bit."
