Sooners Get Serious with Rising LB

Just one week ago Rockwall, Texas 2018 linebacker Alston Orji was a promising young prospect but did not hold an offer. Fast forward that same week and he holds Big 12 and SEC offers, Oklahoma and Arkansas respectively, and it seems that the 6-foot-2, 216-pound prospect will only continue to grow in recruiting stature.

Another step in that journey was traveling to Oklahoma with his family, where he picked up his Oklahoma offer, and had a chance to see the Sooners, and their spring game, up close.

Orji's Take

"It was an all around great visit. They have an amazing athletic and academic program, great coaches, and I got to meet some extremely talented student-athletes during my time there. (I was) definitely honored to be a part of the activities surrounding the spring game," Orji said.

"(The offer) happened right after I spoke to coach (Tim) Kish. He and coach (Bob) Stoops sat me down with my family and let me know they like what they've seen from me and told me that an offer from them isn't given to just anybody. Then they told me they wanted to offer me," he recalled.

"It's an amazing school with great coaches. They got a great thing going on down there and it's an honor to have received an offer to play college football there," he said.

Next on the Schedule

Orji says he has not made any future travel plans and as of yet hasn't given it any real thought.

Getting a Look at Orji:

Scoop Staff's Take:

Orji clearly enjoyed his visit to Norman with his family and the Sooners are off to a good start in his recruitment. But as his travel plans make clear, there is likely still a long way to go as he doesn't appear to be in a hurry to come to a decision. Oklahoma, with it's early start, is in good shape with Orji but it seems likely he'll take more trips and be a player they'll have to continue pursuing for some time.
