Sooners at a Dead Sprint in Randolphs Pursuit

Since his commitment to the Sooners last spring Dallis Todd has done loads of recruiting for Oklahoma but recently he, along with fellow Oklahoma commits Marcus Green and Tito Windham, did his first evaluation for his future program.

That's because Todd, Green, and Windham couldn't help but notice one of their fellow Semper-Fi All-Americans in Los Angeles a few weeks ago, four-star Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln cornerback Kendall Randolph. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back worked alongside Windham at East practices and things moved quickly from there.

"I wasn't hearing from them before the game. Dallis, Tito, and Marcus, those are the main people I was around and Tito was my roommate," Randolph explained. "Tito he had seen me after the first couple of days in one-on-ones and seven on seven stuff. He mentioned 'I need to get you on the phone with my coaches, we need another corner'.

"He ended up telling Dallis and Marcus and they were blowing up the coaches and the coaches ended up watching my film. We ended up talking and coach told me that he had seen the film and loved the type of player that I was."

That coach was Sooners cornerbacks coach Bobby Jack Wright who let him know the Sooners were serious about him if Randolph was truly interested in Oklahoma.

"He told me that if I was serious about considering going there he'll come do an in-home visit and I could come in and take a visit on Jan. 31 or whatever open weekend I have and we can move from there," he explained.

"My coach was already in California with me so we just set it up for the 31."

The talented Randolph has spent time at Lincoln at both cornerback and safety and there have been a lot of questions about where he might fit into Oklahoma's plans but he says there is no doubt where the Sooners see him. Just as there is no doubt where he'd prefer to play.

"Corner, I ended up getting with the safeties (at Lincoln) because that's where we had a lack at my sophomore year and we really needed another safety a guy who could play strong or free and could open field tackle. So one day they just kind of put me back there. We didn't really have another safety. I like corner though," he said. "That's where Oklahoma likes me at, that's where they see me fitting."

Randolph and his family are planning to play host to Wright on Monday and though things have moved fast between he and the Sooners it hasn't been at the sake of other programs and their interest.

"We're going to have a real in-depth conversation on Monday," Randolph explained. "That's how we got it started and how it got moving so fast. One of the first things they talked about - 'if you are serious about this, we need to get this started and moving'.

"I had a visit to Louisville set for Jan. 17 and a visit to the Kentucky on the 24 and other than that I got an offer from UCLA so I still have to talk to my coach about a visit there as well. I'm not taking the Louisville visit with what happened with coach (Charlie) Strong. The only problem is, I only have one more open weekend for a visit, I think. So if I do take that UCLA visit it'll be real last minute."

With the cancellation of his trip to Louisville the idea of taking his trip to Norman this weekend was thrown around but it was agreed on by both parties that waiting until the 31 was easiest for each.

"We talked about it but it wasn't convenient for everyone. Coach Wright wanted to do the in-home visit first and then we agreed that between my mom having to find a last minute ticket and setting it up at short notice for the 17 they both agreed the 31 would be the better date. They were on the phone and both thought the same thing."
