It may have been late into Monday night that Yazoo City, Miss. three-star defensive end Gabriel Campbell made his decision but he says the decision had been coming for at least 24 hours. Actually to hear the 6-foot-6, 250-pound defensive lineman tell it's something he has been dreaming about for some time.

"I was talking it over with my girlfriend, we were just talking about it and thinking about it and praying on it. I actually knew Monday night I was going to commit on Tuesday it just hit me then," Campbell said. "I called coach Jerry Montgomery and let him know first, and I called coach Bob Stoops today.
"Coach Montgomery, I texted him and he was saying, to call him and he was just so excited.
"I had a dream I was going to Oklahoma, it was a while ago. I was waiting for the right time. My mom had told me, you know when it's going to hit you, you're going to go to their campus and find out for yourself, and it hit me the other night that I had found it."
So was there any one thing that sold him on Oklahoma?
"It's just too good of an opportunity, coach Stoops, coach Montgomery, and they've won national championships, it's just too good of an opportunity. With Jordan Phillips leaving, he was saying some guys are going to have to play as a freshman. I want to be one of those guys," he explained.
Campbell has already begun to give thought to what he'd like to do with his time in Norman and how he might be able to help early on.
"I know, I've got to get conditioned, they said I would be a great four-technique. But I run a 4.79-second 40-yard dash and I know that coach (Jerry) Schmidt is going to get me faster, so maybe I could play some of that standup. I want to do it all."
Campbell admits that his parents would prefer he stay a bit closer to home but are supportive of his decision. Meanwhile he is still a bit in shock that the chance to play for the team he grew up liking is now nearly upon him.
"It's just, it's amazing, I can't really believe it. I can't wait to get out there and do it," he said.
The Magnolia State's No. 9 overall prospect, and No. 25 strongside defensive end in the country, had offers from in-state programs Ole Miss and Southern Miss and though his family and friends might prefer him to stay closer to home for Campbell the chance to make some new friends is something he enjoys the thought of.
"That's not a concern for me, I've already met a lot of people, all the coaches, the players, love me, even the recruits love me. I met some students and some non-students at the game and I've been staying up with them," Campbell said.
While he was on campus in Norman for his official visit he found a nickname that will be sticking wit him thanks to one Sooner assistant.
"Big Country, that's fine by me. It was the tight end coach, Jay Boulware, he started the nickname," he said. "I'm the one guy from the country."
So with all this great news for Oklahoma, is Campbell done with the recruiting process?
Not quite.
"I told State that I would go visit them, so I still may take that visit, I told Ole Miss that I would visit," he said.
Campbell is adamant that it's not something that Oklahoma fans should spend a minute worry about though.
"I may take those visits, I'm just keeping my word to those schools. I told them if they still want to have me, then I might come but I'm going to Oklahoma."
