Sooners Wish Upon a Starr-land

Few 2018 prospects arrived in Norman, Okla. last weekend with less notoriety than Cypress (Texas) Cy-Falls cornerback Starrland Baldwin Jr. Unrated and holding only offers from McNeese St. and Wayland Baptist most weren't that familiar with the explosive two-way standout for the Eagles.

His trip to Norman, Okla. for the Sooners second junior day saw that notoriety change considerably when he picked up an offer from the Sooners on Sunday. And the Sooners tried to make the moment a big one for the 5-foot-11, 170-pound speedster.

"Coach (Kerry) Cooks pulled me and my family to the side before we toured the second half of the facility. He told us to put our hands in and to get a "break" while our hands were in and heads were down he told me that he talked to Bob Stoops and that I was welcomed into the family and that I now have an offer," Baldwin gushed.

"It was unexpected and caught me by surprise. I liked it, it was unique."

Though Baldwin's first FBS offer hit a special note for him the entire event was something he took the time to really enjoy.

"(The visit) was amazing , the new facility is going to be so nice when everything is done. I felt at home and got a lot of helpful tips from coach cooks, the coaching staff is awesome," he said.

Cooks, Stoops, and the rest of the coaching staff also did a lot to make Baldwin Jr. feel right at home during his first trip to Norman.

"The Coaches , they made me feel right at home , they all have different personalities but all are good people and they want the best for their kids," he said.

At this point Baldwin, who picked up offers today from TCU and UTSA, doesn't know when he'll be making a return to Oklahoma but does say that 'visiting again is a must'. That said, with the new attention coming, and more likely to follow, he isn't in any hurry to rush a decision.

"I plan on taking my time and see which schools are going to build a relationship with me through the process and make me feel at home."
