Texas star heads across Red River to OU

After landing the nation’s top quarterback and the No. 6 player overall two Sundays ago, the Sooners have now added a pledge from the No. 13 strongside defensive end in the nation.
Colleyville (Texas) Heritage four-star selection Alan Davis has been leaning toward Oklahoma over LSU and Nebraska for the past few weeks, but it was an unofficial visit to Norman today that sold him.

“We first got there and coach (Brent) Venables showed my mother around the weight room, the Switzer Center, the indoor complex, the academic center and the locker rooms,” Davis, who is 6-foot-2 and 237-pounds, said.
“He was showing her the whole nine yards since she’s not been up there before. We then went into coach (Bob) Stoops' office and he was there with my parents praising me and telling me about how I would be a perfect fit to play football at Oklahoma.
“My mom had a few questions and then he asked me how I felt about everything. I told him that I felt great. I then said I wanted to be a Sooner.”
And the celebration began.
Stoops told Davis that picking the Sooners over offers from LSU, Nebraska, Baylor, North Carolina and many others was the right choice. Venables couldn’t hold back his excitement, though.
“Coach Stoops was really excited, and he told me that he thought I had made the right choice for my future,” Davis said. “And you know how much of an outgoing guy coach Venables is. He was like ‘That’s the right choice’ and ‘There you go.’ He was really excited and he could hardly stand still because he was so pumped up about it.”
Venables is almost as pumped as Davis is about his decision.
“I’ve always liked Oklahoma,” Davis said. “It’s not too far from the house, and I like what they’ve done with coach Stoops there. They send guys to the NFL. That’s the main reason why I picked OU. Oklahoma will best prepare me for the NFL.
“Then I also really liked the coaches and the players. We all just seemed to click, and I’m going to really enjoy playing with them.”
Davis, who was an all-district pick as a junior, also said academics played a role in his decision.
“The academic support at Oklahoma is amazing,” Davis said. “A lot of schools will do all of your work for you, but at Oklahoma they will make sure that you’re the one doing the work and learning the right way. I’m going to major in medicine or biology and I really like the programs there.
“It was just a perfect fit in every way.”
Davis said he’s already got an assignment now that he’s officially a Sooner. He’s going to work with Rhett Bomar to help pain the state of Texas Crimson and Cream.
“I told them that I’m going to help recruit any guy that they want,” Davis said.
“I think Oklahoma speaks for itself, but I think I have some good things that I can share. They really want that big boy from Lake Highlands (Franklin Okam). I think I’m going to give him a call and get to know him.”
