Oklahoma City (Okla.) ATH Andy Bass, one of the country’s most unique prospects in the 2024 cycle, has seen his recruitment heat up in a hurry over the summer. After earning a smattering of offers from FCS suitors this spring, Bass hit the camp circuit and quickly became a target for a number of FBS programs. With his combination of speed (10.56 in the 100 meters) and muscular frame (an even six feet and 200 pounds), Bass is a versatile offensive weapon with the capacity to line up at a multiplicity of positions at the next level.
Though he plays quarterback for Heritage Hall High School, many of Bass’ collegiate suitors have pitched a vision that will see him line up in the backfield and the slot. His only official visit to date is a trip to Syracuse, which took place in mid-June. Though his recruitment is still open, Bass is eyeing a decision in the not-too-distant future, and a trio of schools has set the tone in his process thus far.
On Sunday afternoon, Bass announced a top three of Syracuse, Oklahoma and Kansas State, and told Rivals why each school made the cut. Syracuse has offered a full athletic scholarship, while Kansas State and Oklahoma are pursuing Bass as a preferred walk-on.
Syracuse: “They’re just showing a really unique plan for me. I’d be playing a lot of different positions there, and really kind of doing something that they haven’t done with anybody else. So just kind of the unique opportunity, I would say, is the main thing with them.”
Kansas State: “I really like their coaching staff a lot. Before I went to camp, I got the chance to meet with pretty much every single one of them, and they were all really good people. They all are really good catches; obviously, they do a great job every year. So it’s kind of hard to turn down a program like K-State, scholarship or not.”
Oklahoma: “As far scholarship and school being paid for, my whole school will get paid for through NIL. So I wouldn’t have to worry about that. It’s basically a scholarship without the label, I guess you could say. But yeah, I’ve got a lot of friends there. I know a lot of people there. They have a pretty unique plan for me too, after what I got to hear from Coach Lebby and Coach Murray on Friday. I think I would be playing some running back; I’d be in the running back room. But I’d also be split out wide quite a bit, trying to get me one-on-one with linebackers. And they even said [I’d be] playing some quarterback inside the goal line. [I’d have] kind of my own package for that. So they definitely brought some interesting things for me to think about.”
Bass acknowledged that he may take a few more game-day visits once the season starts, but reaffirmed that he’d like to have a decision made sooner rather than later.
