Weathersby Unaware of False Alarm

During the middle of arguably Oklahoma's biggest class of 2014 recruiting weekend a class of 2015 prospect momentarily stole the show. The most interesting thing is that it happened due to excitement over something that didn't actually happen.
On Saturday evening three-star Oklahoma commitment Du'Vonta Lampkin made a simple tweet that had everyone in an uproar.

That was all it took for Oklahoma fans to go wild. Interestingly enough Weathersby, one of the remaining few of his generation to not buy whole-heartedly into social networking, knew nothing of the situation until several hours later.
The 6-foot-5, 280-pound prospect heard about his friends tweet and said that the strangest thing was that Lampkin hadn't heard about his Oklahoma offer before hand.
"I guess he found out yesterday or whatever that they had offered me, he ended up texting me. He was saying you should commit. I said I'll make my decision in the summer time, we grew up together though. We're good friends," Weathersby said.
The Spring (Texas) Westfield, whose Oklahoma offer joined previous offers from Wake Forest and Florida along with a Texas A&M offer, has been trying to keep things quiet but says that the recruiting attention has made it impossible. And the attention only figures to increase with a trip to College Station this weekend and Oklahoma on Feb. 1.
"I'm just rolling with these offers. I'm happy I have them but trying to keep it to myself. I don't like a lot of people knowing about all of it though," he said. "I'll be going to A&M this Sunday and on the first of February I'll be going up there to Oklahoma."
Rivals.com had Weathersby as one of the Army All-American combine's top lineman and though he has four BCS level offers already he isn't in any hurry to make a decision. Though he does know when a choice will be made.
"I'm going to decide in the summer," he said. "Once we get to the football season I want to focus - I'll commit before the year."
Though there is a long way to go in his recruitment, right now the Sooners have plenty of reason to feel good about their chances.
"Oklahoma I'm pretty much set on that, but I'm keeping an open mind," he said.
What can the Sooners do to keep their lead; is there a possible hiccup on the horizon?
"They need to keep up the communication, keep talking with me. Of the ones that have offered me, I hear from Oklahoma by far more than the rest," Weathersby stated.
Though his area recruiter is Jerry Montgomery, the three-star offensive tackle from North Houston has been building a relationship with Sooners offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh.
"Coach Bedenbaugh, he is a pretty cool dude. He's told me that I have to work but that I could have a chance to start," he said.
But it's another staff member that he'll be hitting up when he makes it to Norman in a little less than two weeks.
"Most likely I'll get with the strength coach, that's where I'll be all the time and that's where I'll be as the season goes on."
