Asamoah Does it All on Tape

Oklahoma's latest commitment, three-star linebacker, Brian Asamoah of Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis DeSales, was among the Sooners earliest offers at the position and on Thursday night he backed up that faith with a pledge to Tim Kish, Lincoln Riley, and co.

So what is it that caught Oklahoma's eye from an early point in time?

The first thing you notice as you watch Asamoah is just how quick his feet are. Whether it's lining up at running back, or at linebacker when he blitzes, drops in coverage or simply takes on a blocker - Asamoah has quick feet and the ability to explode in small spaces.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound prospect, who took his Oklahoma official visit last weekend, is a physical player that isn't afraid to take on a blocker before finding his way to a ball carrier or quarterback with his eyes down field. Asamoah isn't the biggest linebacker but he is more than willing to stick his nose in and slow down a play before his teammates can arrive.

But perhaps the thing that stands out the most as you continue to watch his tape? Just effort, Asamoah, on one play, tracks the ball carrier down nearly 40-yards down the field after pursuing the ball from the snap.

Asamoah will be an interesting positional fit for Oklahoma as he shows some knack, and instinct, for playing through trash; which could help him emerge as an inside linebacker. However, much of his tape shows him as an outside linebacker. In the end the reality that he is a guy who is likely to slide inside where his frame will fit well and he can use his speed to work sideline to sideline.
