Bob Stoops’ search to replace defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery is underway. Sources have confirmed to SoonerScoop.com Oklahoma will interview Georgia Tech defensive line coach Mike Pelton today in Norman.

Pelton has spent the past two seasons coaching the defensive line at Georgia Tech under defensive coordinator Ted Roof.
Before Georgia Tech, Pelton held the same position at Auburn University for two seasons.
Pelton has 14 years of coaching experience on the collegiate level and could fit the mold of what Stoops is looking for in a coach familiar with running an odd front scheme.
Pelton has made coaching stops at Valdosta State (2000), Troy (2001-06), Iowa State (2007-08), Vanderbilt (2010), Louisiana-Lafayette (2011), Auburn (2011-12), Georgia Tech (2013-present).
Pelton played his collegiate football at Auburn where he was a four-year letterman from 1991-94 and was named All-SEC in 1994.
With the move of Mike Stoops to outside linebacker coach following the hire of Kerry Cooks as defensive backs coach, the Sooners will remain committed to a 3-4 alignment on defense.
Georgia Tech does run a 4-3 defense, but the official Georgia Tech website says Pelton: "helped Roof install a multiple 4-3 scheme."
Pelton has experience developing great standup linebackers/defensive ends during his tenure.
His most famous former pupils are from his stint coaching at Troy. Pelton tutored former Dallas Cowboys star and current Denver Bronco Demarcus Ware. He also coached up future Pro-Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora.
Sources tell us Pelton would be a strong candidate to make a move from Georgia Tech, as assistant salaries aren’t aggressive and he has four young daughters which would make the move an easier one.
According to USA Today’s assistant coach salary database, Pelton made $213,950 last year at Georgia Tech.
Jerry Montgomery left behind a $380,000 salary in 2014, while OU’s lowest paid assistants (Tim Kish and Jay Boulware) each cleared $325,000 last season.
