MVP Shines on Wrong Side

The 2020 season was once in great jeopardy and while several Sooners commitments won't be playing until the spring, if at all, the number of Future Sooners who are in action are now the overwhelming majority of the 2021 and 2022 classes. The Sooners have a lengthy list of prospects some of whom are vying for a state championship next week while others are still wrapping up their regular seasons. In what has been a chaotic year, who took home this week's MVP with a huge performance on the opposite side of the ball he has been recruited to?

The Skinny: In a 52-21 win over Frisco Independence Bowman had a solid night with three carries for 12 yards and a 1-yard touchdown along with a six receptions for 52 yards. Defensively he had his big moments of the night with a 46-yard interception return for touchdown.

Next Week: Ryan (8-0) is hosting Frisco Lone Star.

The Skinny: Ritter's impressive run finally came to an end in the state semifinals. Multiple first half turnovers saw Ritter fall behind 35-12 at half. Ritter, helped by a 30-yard touchdown from Burden, roared back in the second half but came up short, 55-46.

Next Week: Ritter (4-4) ended their season in the semifinals of the Missouri class 3 playoffs.

The Skinny: Iowa Western C.C., along with the rest of the NJCAA, has delayed their season until the spring due to Covid-19.

The Skinny: Hudson and Garland saw their game against Lakeview Centennial canceled about 12 hours before kickoff.

The Skinny: Foster saw their game with district rival Ft. Bend Travis called midway through the third quarter on account of rain. When the game was called Foster had a 7-3 lead. Jackson had four catches for 64 yards, including a long of 40 yards.

The Skinny: McCutchin and Johnson's defense continues to stymie one opponent after another, this time downing No. 3 Corpus Christi Calallen, 38-24. McCutchin did his part defensively but also chipped in with a 20-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.

Next Week: Johnson (8-2) is meeting Corpus Christi Miller in the quarterfinals of the Texas 4A division one playoffs.

The Skinny: McKinzie and Cooper got a big win over a talented Wichita Falls Rider squad, 25-24 after being down 24-7 with just 10 minutes remaining in the game. On the night McKinzie had 12 tackles (nine solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two quarterback hurries.

Next Week: Cooper (7-1) is traveling to Wichita Falls.

The Skinny: Episcopal ended their season at 2-4.

The Skinny: Mukes and Choctaw broke a 60-year streak with a last second 38-35 win over Stillwater, that may have been the state's game of the year, and sent the Yellowjackets to the state finals for the first time since 1960.

The Skinny: Shettron had a rather quiet night offensively with two catches for 28 yards but it was on defense that he helped push Santa Fe past No. 3 Union, 21-14. Shettron had five tackles (three solo), but it was his two interceptions, including the game-clinching turnover deep inside Santa Fe territory on his way to Santa Fe's first state final since 2003.

WEEK 13 MVP

The Skinny: Trailing, for the rare time this season, Smith and Texas high had to make a fourth quarter comeback down 10-7. The Tigers outscored Nacagdoches 14-7 in the fourth quarter to come away with a 21-14 win. Smith had four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and an unbelievable one-handed eight-yard touchdown catch in the victory.

The Skinny: Stutsman, as ever, stuffed the Foundation Academy stat book but did it more quietly in a hard fought 7-0 win over Victory Christian Academy. He had one 10-yard pass 151 yards rushing and the game's lone touchdown, a 74-yard keeper, along with three receptions for 24 yards. On defense he had 11 tackles (nine solo), and one pass break-up.

Next Week: Foundation Academy (9-1) is meeting University Christian in the semifinals of the Florida Class 2A playoffs.

The Skinny: Washington Gonzaga, along with the rest of the WCAC league, has delayed their season until the spring due to Covid-19.
