Sanders Buys in with Sooners

On Sunday night Lincoln Riley set the world of Oklahoma recruiting ablaze again with his famous 'googly eyes'. Obviously the first thought was that the Sooners had landed a commitment from one of their three uncommitted official visitors - however it quickly became clear that wasn't the case.

So if it wasn't Andrew Chatfield, Abdul-Malik McClain, or Cameron Wire, who could it have been amongst Oklahoma's droves of 2018, 2019, and even 2020 guests?

On Monday evening the world got their answer when Colleyville (Texas) Heritage do-it-all jumbo athlete Drew Sanders announced his pledge to the Sooners.

Sanders first made his name as a young quarterback but as time has gone on he has developed for the Panthers as something of a tight end/defensive end/linebacker target. The 6-foot-5, 212-pound sophomore has been big on the Sooners for some time but during his visit over the TCU weekend was the culmination of a recruitment that started, in earnest, on May 11 when the Sooners offered the talented, then, freshman.

He also holds offers from Baylor, Georgia, Houston, Oregon, and TCU amongst several others.

So what was it that sold him on the Sooners?

"I believe in the family atmosphere in the program. I love the direction of the program and feel it will provide me with everything to become the best player I can be," Sanders said.

And while it is definitely early in his recruitment, and many more schools will not only pursue, but offer, Sanders in the months and years to come the big athlete doesn't see any cause for a change of heart after seeing Norman up close repeatedly.

"I've been to three games this year, I've been to games at several other major programs, and I just feel it's the right place for me. At OU success is the only acceptable outcome, and that's the atmosphere I want to be in."

Sanders' decision makes him Oklahoma's second 2020 commitment follow fellow metroplex standout Jase McClellan.

SoonerScoop.com will be catching up with Sanders more later this week before catching his game against Fort Worth Arlington Heights.
