From Bedenbaugh's Familiar Turf

DEER PARK, Texas - Oklahoma's 2019 recruiting already has landed three Rivals100 prospects, including a pair of Lone Star State natives. But Oklahoma is still in search of a number of young Texas stars including Conroe Oak Ridge Rivals250 offensive tackle Tyler Johnson.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound blocker holds an offer not only from Oklahoma but Arkansas, Baylor, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, TCU, and Texas. And last Friday night he showed why he has received all of that attention during Oak Ridge's 13-3 win over Deer Park.

To begin with Johnson has an impressive frame with the feet to pull and move naturally to the second level. As the game wore on his fatigue showed up, at times, and he would tend to start bending at the waist rather than keeping the flat back he has undoubtedly been taught.

What is perhaps most interesting about Johnson is that his length makes staying at tackle possible - maybe bordering on probable - but thanks to a sturdy frame, should tackle not be the right fit or not be a true need at his eventual choice of school he won't have any problem sliding in and playing guard.

Along with that positional versatility Johnson shows an ability, with his footwork and power, respectively, to work in either zone or man blocking schemes.

In his recruitment Johnson says he'll be in Norman for the Nov. 25 game against West Virginia but also has eyes on trips to Michigan and Texas.

*Lining up across from Johnson everyday in practice is fellow-highly-recruited Oak Ridge star Joseph Ossai. Long and lean Ossai is all about potential but he was surprisingly physical against the Deer. Ossai has a lot of maturation to do physically but he is twitchy and was impressive fighting through, what looked to be, cramps throughout the night.
