OU Improvement: AD helps protect this house

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The foundation for the future of Oklahoma football had already been laid with significant commitments from five-star quarterback Rhett Bomar, five-star linebacker Chris Patterson and 13 other players.
But when Adrian Peterson, the nation’s No. 1 player according to Rivals.com, announced his intentions to play for the Sooners that foundation got an even better home improvement.

Yes, Bob Villa would be proud.
With Peterson’s commitment, the Sooners have added even more ability to lay the lumber on people and things continue to look bright for Oklahoma’s future.
Peterson’s commitment pushed Oklahoma back up to No. 3 in the Rivals.com national team rankings, behind USC and LSU. It’s going to be tough to knock off USC from the top spot, as the Trojans already have commitments from five five-star players with plenty of commits still to come.
But this Sooner class definitely packs a punch and many of the commitments were glad to see that Peterson chose to be with them.
“I’m loving this,” Patterson said shortly after hearing that Peterson is going to be joining him in Norman.
“It’s great that he’s going to OU. It’s going to help keep us right up there near the top. I didn’t know what he was going to do. I had a feeling that he’d pick Oklahoma, but you never know until anybody does it.
“I’m glad he made the right choice. You let the Sooner fans know that we’re going to be heading to Oklahoma ready to knock some heads and win national championships.”
Bomar, the star quarterback that’ll be in the same backfield as Peterson, said he had a feeling that Peterson would be wearing Crimson and Cream. He even said he wasn’t too surprised at all. Did Peterson let him know about the news in advance?
“Well, he really didn’t, but it was pretty obvious after spending the week with him that he would pick Oklahoma,” Bomar said with a big smile after the U.S. Army All-American Game in San Antonio, Texas.
“It’s going to be a real honor to play in the same backfield as him. He’s an incredible athlete and a really good guy, too. I think our abilities really complement each other quite well.”
Former Texas A&M assistant coach Allen Weddell, who was at the All-American game as a scout for Rivals.com, said Big 12 defenses better be scared.
“If they’re not, then they better be,” Weddell said.
“Those two guys in the same backfield is a defensive coordinator’s nightmare. How do you game plan around stopping a quarterback that has the ability to kill your with his arm and with his legs? Then how are you going to game plan around stopping Superman? That’s what Adrian Peterson is. He’s Superman. He needs to have a big red S under his shoulder pads.
“Those two guys are going to be unstoppable. It’s going to be scary to see what they can do. The Big 12 better be on alert.”
