Before offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley joined the Sooner coaching staff, OU had not dipped into the Tar Heel State since Jejuan Rankins in 2002.

Since Riley's arrival in Norman, the Oklahoma football team has now landed three commitments in two years from the state of North Carolina; four-stars Abdul Adams and Austin Kendall in the 2016 class, and now Jeremiah Hall joins them in the 2017 class.

There are so many things to like about what Hall brings to the table as a future h-back in Oklahoma's offense. The obvious size and athleticism pops off the screen in a highlight tape that includes 90-yard touchdown receptions from a 6-foot-3, 225-pound high schooler.

What should excite Sooner fans about Hall, beyond his athleticism, is the complete set of tools he brings and how perfectly they fit the versatility needed to play his future position.

There's a certain deceptive aspect often built in to playing the h-back role. Guys must be able to sell a run or a block fake before slipping out for a pass. Even in the very first GIF you see a nice hard sell on an inside route before pivoting into the flat. On this play, you see the three-star patiently kick back into his stance and even put his hands on the defender before sneaking out for a pass and huge gain - also thanks in part to Hall's strength to bounce right off a would-be tackler.

Another imperative role for an h-back in the run game is to be able to sprint out and set the edge on a block. Watch how quickly Hall bursts off the line, wins the outside shoulder, and then drives his legs before finishing off the quality pancake block and more importantly clearing the way for an easy five-to-six-yard run.

Not only do h-backs need to be athletic pass-catchers out of the backfield and lead blockers in the run game, but they may also be called upon to carry the ball a time or two and that's a skill that also comes very naturally to the Charlotte (N.C.) Vance star.

Here you can see Hall's vision and burst through the hall to split the linebackers and never leaving his feet on his way to the end zone.

Comparison

The easy ones to make here are to Oklahoma's current and previous holders of this role - Dimitri Flowers and Trey Millard. And just because it's easy doesn't make it any less untrue. You could even throw in another Sooner great from the Stoops era, J.D. Runnels, as an apt comparison.

Flowers and Hall share almost identical frames coming out of high school and they both have the athleticism and natural receiving skills to make them valuable in a pass-heavy offense. Millard and Runnels more reflect Hall's strength and power in the running game, while still being threats to slip out.

For creativity's sake, another interesting comparison that works would be Oakland Raider h-back Marcel Reece.

Hall possesses the versatile skill-set and athletic tools to compare favorably to all of those guys and it will not be a shock to see him find immediate success upon his arrival in Norman.
