Oklahoma picked up its second 2018 commitment from a Texas wide receiver in as many days when Jaylon Robinson announced his selection of the Sooners on Monday afternoon.

Robinson decommitted from Texas Tech two days after receiving his offer from Oklahoma earlier in June. His pledge followed that of Brenham, Texas, three-star receiver and fellow former Tech commit Treveon Johnson, who committed on Sunday. Three-star Tennessee receiver Kundarrius Taylor started the recent run of receiver talent heading to the Sooners when he made his commitment on June 23.

“OU has been my dream school for a while growing up,” Robinson said. “That was an opportunity I didn’t want to give up. I like Tech, but I didn’t feel as comfortable as I did at Oklahoma.

“I used to watch (Sooners) highlights on YouTube when I was little. I didn’t know who they were, but I picked them. My age group, watching Sterling Shepard and the DeDe Westbrooks, they’re kind of the inspiration for me.”

Robinson was in Norman earlier this month and said that he was struck with how impressive the renovations of the stadium, weight and locker rooms were shaping up. His visit also gave the staff its chance to show that although there is a new head coach, the tools and principles that have made Oklahoma a strong program are all still in place.

He said he'll be back in Oklahoma again for the Sooners’ next recruit barbecue.

“The visit went good,” he said. “I met up with Coach (Cale) Gundy and Coach (Lincoln) Riley and Coach (Dennis) Simmons, and I just had a full-day visit with all the coaches and staff there. I went with Dylan Wright and we just toured the facilities and had a good time.

“They have unbelievable equipment - the facilities amazed me. I think it will be a nice place to get me to where I want to be.”

Robinson finally broke-through as a four-star prospect this spring after showing at numerous events how quick and elusive he can be as an offensive playmaker. His ability to so decisively change direction is evident in his route-running as well.

His versatility figures to make him a valuable asset, and Robinson trusts Riley’s vision for how he’ll be incorporated into the Sooners offense.

“He knows how to win,” he said of Riley. “He was the offensive coordinator before he was the head coach, so he comes from my side, but he’s talked to me about how they’re going to use me in the offense and get me the ball. They told me that they’re going to use me at every wide receiver position; inside, outside, even some tight end - so everything.”

Robinson said that he is not likely to sign until National Signing Day in February, but said that he’s closing up shop on his recruitment going forward. After going from simply rooting for the Sooners as a child to starting his college career in the crimson and cream, he said he has plenty more to look forward to in Norman.

“It’s a winning program,” he said. “But like I said, the new facilities are a wonder. I think a lot of people are going to want to go there when they see the facilities … Coach Riley is a very cool person to talk to. There’s just a big energy out there.”
