Rattler Strikes for the Sooners

Just eight days ago Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle 2019 Rivals100 quarterback Spencer Rattler made his way to Norman to get his first up-close look at the Sooners under new head coach Lincoln Riley. Though it was less than two weeks from Riley taking the head coaching position, following Bob Stoops' retirement, Rattler fell in love with what he saw.

To the point that he let Oklahoma know he was coming before he left Norman.

"I'm committing (to Oklahoma). I told Lincoln and the staff (before I left). Rattler said of his decision. "I loved everything about OU. The coaches, players, facilities, fan base, academics."

In fact while many wondered if Stoops' departure might hurt Oklahoma's efforts in recruiting - a concern that has been largely debunked with Rattler giving the Sooners eight commitments in less than three weeks since his hiring.

And Rattler adds more ammunition to the idea that Oklahoma seems headed in the right direction with Riley.

"I've known Lincoln since (my) freshman year. He offered me when I was 14," he said. "I've had a great relationship with him.

"I love how he is (now) the head coach."

Rattler and Riley enjoyed time together during Rattler's visit to Norman last week.

During his visit he not only spent ample time around Oklahoma's head coach, and offensive coordinator, but also around Oklahoma's Heisman finalist quarterback.

"I hung out with Baker (Mayfield) for about 15 minutes. I talked to some other players too," he said. "Baker was just saying positive stuff about the program and everything."
