SCOOPHD: Sunderland Leads East Oklahoma City Stars

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. - With the seismic shift of 6A football in the state of Oklahoma it's a new day for some of Oklahoma's most proud programs, including the Midwest City Bombers. No one is more aware of that than Rivals250 star safety Will Sunderland who has made a strong impression the camp circuit this spring.
However the Dallas RivalsCamp defensive back MVP won't be able to do the job on his own but with the Bombers returning plenty of talent to arguably the state's best defense he may not have to.

With SCOOPHD on hand Sunderland and the Bombers started their spring practice schedule with their eyes on a the first 6A-2 state title in the state's history.
Interestingly the 6-foot-2, 186-pound prospect, who recently jumped to No. 136 in the Rivals250, says he is more than aware of who is likely to be standing in their way.
"This year's schedule, we're playing Lawton twice, during regular season and maybe in the championship game because we're on the East and West," Sunderland said.
For now though Sunderland's focus is getting through a few spring practices before Mustang's team camp in early June. It's safe to say that his teammates will be ready to see Sunderland causing someone else problems after an interception and several breakups in the first hour of the Bombers practice.
Sunderland has put in serious work in the offseason and has transformed himself into a player as physically impressive as any safety to come out of Oklahoma in quite some time. Aside from his physical tools, Sunderland has great understanding of the Bombers defense and seems to make one play after another within it.
Joining him on the potentially dominant defense are seniors; defensive lineman Demikal Harrison, safety Roscoe Gatewood, hybrid safety/linebacker Aaron McKinney. Among the younger talent is 2016 defensive lineman Worren Davis, and a potential star in the making in 2017 defensive back Evan Fields.
Harrison is a powerfully built defensive lineman who is still refining his game but according to the Bomber staff is rapidly growing into his skillset. Gatewood continues to be one of the state's most under appreciated players, a lethal hitter who is capable of making plays in both phases of the game.
Meanwhile McKinney is an intriguing athlete with great size - who recently picked up his first offer from South Dakota - and impressive athleticism. It may take some time but with his measurable and continued development an FBS offer seems completely within reach.
Davis and Fields are works in progress with the former being the younger brother of current Kansas Jayhawk cornerback Ronnie Davis. Meanwhile Fields could be the Bombers next elite recruit to follow in the foot steps of Sunderland.
NOTES:
*During the trip on the east side of Oklahoma City Scoop also made a stop by Oklahoma City Douglass to see fast-rising 2015 safety Dameko Doddles. A big and rangy athlete who really came on near the end of the season and into the Trojans 4A playoff run has already picked up an offer from Wyoming with several others giving the idea real thought. Doddles has a great frame, real range, and is a violent hitter from the safety position - where he is most likely to end up. Keep an eye on him as a player who could pick up multiple offers over the next month.
Another East Oklahoma City star who is gaining real steam is Del City all-purpose back Davion Freeman. On Tuesday morning he picked up his third offer, from New Mexico, and with is explosive speed and ability in the open field they don't figure to be the last.
A combo that could become dangerous for the Eagles is 2016 quarterback Terry Wilson, fresh off a strong performance at the Dallas RivalsCamp and emerging 2015 wide receiver Kyle Walker. Wilson is a big athletic quarterback who will be a handful for opponents in Del City's option looks and after the ability he showed off as a passer in Dallas it's clear defenses will have their hands full. Walker isn't well known yet but that could change thanks to good size, natural ability as a receiver, and the soft hands to make play plenty of plays.
