Future Sooners: Backfield Bonanza

In this week's edition of the Future Sooners there were numerous big performances but two current Sooner commitments had performances that will leave people in their communities talking for quite some time. For one it was a long-awaited matchup of possibly the two best quarterbacks on the West Coast and for the other it was his formal introduction to Oklahoma's commitment list. Take a look as we, in a new feature, explain our thinking on the MVP award.

The Skinny: Lancaster stymied Mansfield Summit, to the tune of 8-24 passing and three interceptions. Austin, who had two tackles and two pass break-ups, was a part of things before spraining his knee in the second quarter and was removed, as a precaution in a lopsided win for the Tigers, 45-20.

Next Week: Lancaster (5-1) is hosting Mansfield Timberview

The Skinny: Barnes kept his run on offense going with six receptions for 91-yards and three touchdowns (15, 35, 5) in Carroll's 49-7 dismantling of Lewisville. Defensively Barnes just missed an interception and managed seven tackles.

Next Week: Carroll (5-1) is traveling to Flower Mound Marcus.

The Skinny: John Marshall and Broiles just kept rolling with a 42-24 win over Anadarko.

Next Week: John Marshall (5-1) is traveling to Bridge Creek on Thurs., Oct. 13.

The Skinny: In his first game as an Oklahoma commitment Brooks wasted no time making a big impression with a 26 carry, 323-yard, and four touchdown night (80, 42, 1, 3) in Mansfield's 47-28 win over Arlington Martin.

Next Week: Mansfield (4-2) is hosting Arlington Lamar.

The Skinny: Brown and his Union teammates just kept running over the competition with a 51-3 win over Moore.

Next Week: Union (5-1) is traveling to Norman North.

The Skinny: Catholic came off the week off facing one of California's most tradition-rich programs, Mater Dei, and things didn't go well falling 62-14. However Calcaterra did have a 63-yard touchdown catch and even averaged 42.7 yard per punt on three attempts.

Next Week: Catholic (4-2) is traveling to St. John Bosco.

The Skinny: Suncoast didn't play due to concern over Hurricane Matthew.

Next Week: Suncoast (3-2) is traveling to Fort Pierce Westwood.

The Skinny: Draper and his Collinsville teammates got back on the winning track downing an enormously overmatched Tulsa Hale squad 49-12.

Next Week: Collinsville (4-2) is traveling to Tulsa Memorial on Thu., Oct. 13.

The Skinny: Stellar Prep had the week off.

Next Week: Stellar Prep (2-3) is traveling to Fremont Washington.

The Skinny: Hall and his Vance teammates got back on track after their first loss of the season last week. They did so with Hall leading the way with seven receptions for 103-yards and three touchdowns (3, 23, 32) as Vance downed West Charlotte

Next Week: Vance (6-1) is traveling to Mallard Creek.

The Skinny: Hayes and Pattonville came up just short against Overland Ritenour 27-21.

Next Week: Pattonville (3-5) is traveling to St. Louis Parkway North.

The Skinny: Humphrey and his Shawnee offense weren't quite able to get on track against Coweta falling 14-7. Though the offense struggled it wasn't about Humphrey who had 12 pancakes. Meanwhile on defense he had five tackles including four for loss.

Next Week: Shawnee (2-4) is hosting Glenpool.

The Skinny: Foster and Lamb just kept rolling crushing Port Lavaca Calhoun 61-17. On his own Lamb had five receptions for 154-yards and three touchdowns (75, 15, 12).

Next Week: Foster (6-0) is traveling to Rosenberg Terry.

The Skinny: Canyon had another big loss, falling 52-13 against Schertz Clemens, but Mundschau did his part with three punts, for an average of 44.7-yards per kick, dropping two inside the 20. He also had an extra point and two field goals, including a long of 44-yards.

Next Week: Canyon (1-5) is traveling to Schertz Clemens.

The Skinny: Elkins was a bit blindsided in a 42-40 loss to rival Fort Bend Willowridge.

Next Week: Elkins (2-4) is hosting Manvel.

The Skinny: After a brutally tough start to the season Cedar Hill got a chance to breath against Irving MacArthur, 58-0. On the night Rambo had three catches for 75-yards and a 40-yard touchdown.

Next Week: Cedar Hill (4-2) is hosting Irving Nimitz.

The Skinny: Reagor did almost everything for the Indians during their 42-14 win over Midlothian. That effort included six catches for 120-yards receiving and a 20-yard touchdown. He also threw a 23-yard touchdown pass, and was just yards short of returning a punt for another touchdown.

Next Week: Waxahachie (6-0) is hosting Mansfield Legacy.

The Skinny: Rising returned to action and did so to lock horns in a game that featured two of the top five junior quarterbacks in the country. Though Rising and his team came up short against Matt Corral and Oaks Christian, 63-49 it's hard to ask more of Rising. He had 404-yards passing and five touchdowns (69, 17, 8, 7, 67), as well as another 144-yards rushing, that included an 80-yard touchdown.

Next Week: Newbury Park (5-2) is hosting Calabasas.

The Skinny: Boyd's season seems to be in free fall with Robinson and his teammates falling to Plano East 61-0.

Next Week: Boyd (0-6) is hosting Plano West.

The Skinny: Horn had the week off.

Next Week: Horn (3-2) is traveling to Rockwall.

The Skinny: Sermon had Sprayberry's only score, a 27-yard touchdown run, but it wasn't enough in a 35-7 loss to Kennesaw Harrison.

Next Week: Sprayberry (4-2) is hosting Allatoona

The Skinny: Sutton and the Falcons, after something of an intense fight for much of the first half downed rival ASA 45-22.

Next Week: Lackawanna C.C. (6-0) is hosting Monroe College on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The Skinny: After back to back tough weeks Memorial got back on track against a quality Skiatook team, that is just two years removed from being a state finalist, winning 35-22. Thomas had a huge night with nine tackles, eight for loss, two sacks, and five quarterback hurries.

Next Week: Memorial (3-2) is hosting Collinsville on Thu., Oct. 13.

The Skinny: In one of the more anticipated games in the state, Southmoore was routed by Norman North 63-21 with the Sabercats offense being held to just 281-yards against, without question, the state's most surprising storyline.

Next Week: Southmoore (4-2) is hosting Norman North.

MVP: Cameron Rising

The Thinking: This one was a brutal call between Brooks and Rising, and some consideration was even given to Reagor - who really was dominating in two of three phases.

However, this came down to a question of competition. Rising was, not only coming off three straight weeks on the sideline, but was doing so against one of the best teams in the area and doing so against the quarterback most compare him to. Corral played outstanding ball as well but Rising's over 500-yards of total offense is just a staggering number and made him the choice.

Week 0 MVP - Cameron Rising

Week 1 MVP - Jalen Reagor

Week 2 MVP - Isaiah Thomas

Week 3 MVP - Justin Broiles

Week 4 MVP - Trey Sermon
